Welcome to September, Gluten-Free Globetrotters! I hope you had a wonderful summer traveling the globe.

Where I’ve been this summer…
→ California: San Francisco, Palo Alto, Camp Celiac in Livermore, Ano Nuevo State Park, Big Basin State Park, Castle Rock State Park, and so many more awesome places as I continue to explore my new home state.
→ Canada: The Canadian Celiac Conference in St. John’s, Newfoundland and a family vacation London, St. Thomas, and Port Stanley, Ontario
→ Airports: Almost too many to count! San Jose, Chicago O’Hare, Detroit, Charlotte, Toronto, St. John’s, Kitchener/Waterloo

Where I’m going this fall…
→ NEW YORK CITY!!! My first trip back to the Big Apple since I moved to California in January. To say I am excited is an understatement.
→ Santa Barbara: Taking a weekend trip to explore a new-to-me coast California town
→ Portland: If you are a long time reader of Gluten-Free Globetrotter, you know I used to work in Portland. I LOVE the gluten-free food scene in Portland and cannot wait to go back for the Gluten Free Food Allergy Fest in October.

Gluten-Free Globetrotter Travel News: June 2016

Time has just flown by this year and it is already June 1st. Wow! It’s been almost five months that I have been living in California and I have been missing New York City a lot lately. Summer in NYC was always my favorite season. I made my first trip outside of CA since moving here to Wisconsin via Utah last month. I will definitely be back to Salt Lake City, the flight in was gorgeous. Finally, I’ve been exploring the California coast and redwood forests as well as San Francisco. They are as different as can be but nothing short of amazing. Weekend day-trips are becoming a favorite pastime!

I have a very busy summer of travel ahead of me and I hope we cross paths at one of my upcoming events. In the meantime, here are some great travel stories that have come across my desk in the past month.

2016 has been quite the whirlwind. Moving from New York City to Santa Cruz, California is a difference as big as night and day. Life here on the left coast moves slower but is sunnier and warmer than winters in NYC which I cannot complain about at all. I do NOT miss the cold winters in New York, but I do miss New York. A LOT! I miss the convenience of having everything you need within a few blocks of your apartment. I miss all kinds of gluten-free friendly food day and night. I miss my friends and family.

On the flip side, Santa Cruz is gorgeous. The ocean, the redwoods, the hiking, biking, and walking… it’s so beautiful. Every day, I am so thankful I landed in a location that has so much natural beauty to explore. I recently bought the Golden Poppy Pass for the California State Park system and I am so excited to explore this spring and summer. I’ve been whale watching and saw hundreds of dolphins and at least six whales. I am going kayaking in a protected nature reserve that is teeming with baby otters. To say I am taking full advantage of the natural world of Santa Cruz would be an understatement.

I am also keeping busy building my west coast clientele for my GlutenFreelancer consulting business and starting a new celiac support group. If you are local, I encourage you to join Santa Cruz Celiac on Facebook. I hope to have our first event during the US Celiac Awareness Month in May.

Another month has come and gone and before we realize it, 2015 will be done. This past month was a whirlwind of gluten-free events and my first trip to France. My Paris posts will be chock full of information and I hope to have part 1 up later this week. In the meantime, visit my Facebook page for a sneak peek of all of the delicious gluten-free food I ate in Paris.

November is also a busy month with expos, travels, and Thanksgiving. I hope to see you at an upcoming event!
