Join Gluten-Free Globetrotter on a Free Travel Webinar

Next week, I am co-hosting a National Foundation for Celiac Awareness live webinar all about gluten-free travel. On Thursday, March 19, log on to your computer at 8pm EST for “Gluten-Free Travel: Making Your Own Rules for the Road.”

Traveling is stressful enough as it is, but add in the extra worry of safely eating gluten-free away from home, and travel can seem downright impossible. Everyone should have the opportunity to live life to the fullest, and that includes travel! Learn what to pack in case you find yourself in a pinch, how to work with hotels and airlines to get gluten-free accommodations, and much more! Whether you’re someone who likes to plan out every detail or wing it, this free webinar is for you! Tune in, and see what adventures await.

It is free to participate. Simply register for the webinar and you will be sent the link with directions of how to sign on to the webinar. If you cannot participate on the 19th, the slides will be available on the NFCA webinar archive page after the event.

Looking forward to virtually connecting with you next week!

WEGO Health Activist Awards 2015 Nominee: Erin Smith

Erin Smith WEGO Health Nominee
Click here to visit my nominee page today.

For the fourth year, I have been nominated for the WEGO Health Activist Awards. WEGO Health is an international, online resources that supports health advocates across many very different health communities.

According to the WEGO Health website, “The WEGO Health Activist Awards were created to embody the mission of WEGO Health: to empower Health Activists. We connect with so many inspiring Health Activists who raise awareness, share information, support their communities, and much more – often without recognition. The WEGO Health network is centered around Health Activists, so we knew it was up to us to tell these leaders how great they are! We wanted to celebrate those who have made a difference and thus, the Awards were born. We’ve since found that these Awards are one of the best ways to introduce new Health Activists to the online community and have community members say “thank you” to the leaders they love.”

I am quite excited to announce that I have been nominated for three different WEGO Health Activist Awards this year! My nominations include: Health Activist Hero, Best in Show: Blog, and Lifetime Achievement. It is such a wonderful feeling to be recognized by my readers and peers for the advocacy and activities I coordinate within the gluten-free community.

Gluten-Free New York City in Italiano

Gluten-Free Globetrotter in New York Low Cost
Gluten-Free Globetrotter in New York Low Cost

A few weeks ago, I received a very exciting email from a publisher in Italy. I learned that Nuok, an online Italian magazine on art, culture, food, and more, included me in their travel guide for New York City. “New York Low Cost” is an excellent guide for tourists who speak Italian looking for inexpensive activities in New York City. Italian-speaking New Yorkers will also find this book to be a great resource for exploring this exciting city.

I believe that Italy is miles ahead of the United States in gluten-free and celiac awareness. Many people wouldn’t think the land of pasta would be gluten-free friendly, but it is! You can buy gluten-free food in the pharmacies in Italy. When I traveled to Italy in 2009, I ate GF pasta across from the Vatican, was given a gluten-free gift basket in Florence, and drank more wine and ate more cheese and chocolate than I thought was humanly possible. To have this Italian publication include me as their Gluten-Free in New York City resource is a great honor. Italy has a very special place in my heart and I hope to get back there one day to thank the Nuok team in person.

If you are traveling to New York City from Italy or looking for a guide to New York City in Italian, visit Amazon.com to order New York Low Cost today. It is available in both paperback and in Kindle format.

Thank you Nuok for including me in your New York Low Cost guide! Grazie mille!

My Life as a Gluten-Free Globetrotter on LÄRABAR

That's me, Gluten-Free Globetrotter, riding an elephant in Chiang Mai, Thailand!
That’s me, Gluten-Free Globetrotter, riding an elephant in Chiang Mai, Thailand!

One of the best parts of being a Gluten-Free Globetrotter is sharing my expert, gluten-free travel tips with others. I have been living with celiac disease for more than thirty years, so all of my vacations have been completely gluten-free. Not many people can say that!

My vacations have been local and international. My adventures have been exhilarating and memorable. I have been to beaches, mountains, deserts, jungles, lakes, islands, rainforests, volcanoes, cities, and countries around the world. Each trip is so much different than the last, but that is what makes them all so unique and fun. The constant throughout all of my travels is that every single trip has been 100% gluten-free.

I recently had the exciting opportunity to write two articles for LÄRABAR.com about my celiac story and my gluten-free travel top tips. Please visit The Nutshell on the LÄRABAR website to read my recent contributions!
