Gluten-Free NYC Favorites

Gluten-Free in New York City
New York City as seen from Gantry Plaza State Park

As a native New Yorker and life-long Celiac, I am often asked what my favorite gluten-free restaurants are in New York City. I love all of the amazing food NY has to offer, but I am a dedicated customer and usually return to the places that I feel safest and that feed me best.

Here is a list of my Gluten-Free in New York City favorites:

Risotteria

270 Bleecker Street at Morton Street
This place has the best gluten-free breadsticks in the whole world! They have an extensive gluten-free menu including risotto, paninis, and lots of desserts.

S'Mac
345 East 12th Street between 1st Ave & 2nd Ave

Gluten-free macaroni and cheese. This is a very all-American type of meal. I would go here for lunch or dinner. The Alpine is my favorite!

Babycakes NYC

248 Broome Street at Ludlow
This bakery sells gluten-free donuts, cupcakes, cakes, and more. I love the gluten-free carrot cake cupcakes with the vanilla icing.

Nizza NYC

630 9th Avenue between 44th and 45th Streets
Northern Italian cuisine. The Gran Cru socca (a pancake-like dish made with chickpea flour) is my favorite. They are a certified gluten-free restaurant.*

Heartland Brewery-Midtown West

625 8th Ave at 41st Street
This all-American bar and grill is located right outside the Port Authority Bus Terminal in the heart of Times Square. They serve gluten-free beer and also have an extensive gluten-free menu. The nachos are delicious and so are the french fries, which are cooked in a dedicated fryer!

Mozzarelli's

38 East 23rd Street
When I go to Mozzarelli’s, I feel like I am being fed by family. Chefs Ronnie and Elan know exactly how to feed their gluten-free customers. They are always experimenting with new pizza crusts and toppings. This is a traditional New York pizzeria that serves gluten-free pizza, wraps, and desserts. They also have a full line of gluten-free cookies called My Dad’s Cookies.

  1. This is such a great post! I had never heard of S’Mac, and I would love some gluten-free mac and cheese. The Gran Cru socca sounds delicious, too. Now I need to plan another trip to NYC 🙂 Thanks for this!

  2. Just going to New York in May – first time since I discovered I have a wheat intolerance – appreciate the info – thanks! There seems to be a lot of GF restaurants – really looking forward to it.
