Gluten-Free Globetrotter at the Canadian Celiac Association Conference

Canadian Celiac Association

I am so excited to announce that I have been invited to speak at the Canadian Celiac Association 2016 National Conference to be held June 24-26, 2016 in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada. This is my first international speaking engagement and I cannot wait to share my gluten-free travel tips to my neighbors in the north!

I am in excellent company with other speakers who will share their celiac disease expertise with the conference attendees. Additionally, I will finally get to meet some of the Canadian experts that I’ve only ever read about online. Click here for the speaker schedule for both days of the conferences.

Registration is now open and you can pay via credit card or mail in a check. Please visit www.ccaconference.com for more information. Be sure to register before the early bird deadline of March 31st for a chance to win a great prize from the conference sponsors! If you plan on attending the conference, let me know in the comments below. I would love to meet you in Canada!

I’ve traveled to Ontario and British Columbia but never Newfoundland. I am thrilled to add a new destination within Canada to my travels. St. John’s looks absolutely gorgeous and is known as one of the most colorful cities in the world. It is also the oldest city in North America so it has a lot of rich history. I am definitely extending my visit beyond the days of the conference to explore St. John’s and the surrounding areas.

Do you have any recommendations for the St John’s area? Gluten-free food, activities in the area, etc.? I’m open to sugestions!

  1. Hi Erin,

I’m going to be attending the conference in St. John’s and am part of the registration committee. Looking forward to hearing you as I have been following your blogs. I will be travelling myself to Central Europe, Italy, Santorini and Athens prior to the conference so I’m hoping to be able to pass along some travel tips when I return. I’ve already checked out some tips for places to eat from your blogs.

Lots of things to do and see in the St. John’s area. Whale watching will be a good idea at this time of year. Make sure you bring lots of layers for your clothing as the weather can change quite quickly. If you plan a whale watching tour you will may need mittens or gloves and a waterproof jacket. It can get quite cold when you are on the North Atlantic. Check out the government tourism website http://www.newfoundlandlabrador.com and the Destination St. John’s website http://destinationstjohns.com for things to do and see while you are here.

Most fine dining restaurants and some chain restaurants have gluten free items on their menus. We have one dedicated gluten free bakery called “Nourish” that has great products and most supermarkets sell gf products including Schar, Udi’s, Glutino, Canon Bakehouse, etc.

    1. Thank you so much Geralyn. Please make sure to find me at the conference so I can meet you in person! Have a safe trip and let me know if you want any travel tips for your destinations this spring.

  2. Looking forward to hearing your presentation in St John’s, and also experiencing the great Nfld hospitality. Should be a great time!
